In 1274, the Mongols attempted to invade Japan, landing in Northern Kyushu.

In 1281, the Mongols attempted to once again invade Japan. The Northern fleet sailed from Korea, much as it had in 1274, while a Southern Fleet, the ex-Sung navy was expected to rendezvous with with them off the coast of Japan.
