One 19th century copy of the scrolls, the Tankaku version, contains a separate scene that is not found elsewhere. Notice how two warriors are carrying the impaled heads of Mongol warriors. One copyist, Takashima Chiharu, claimed that this scene represents an earlier copyist's 'restoration' of the original scrolls.

The 19th century copy provides a better snapshot of the scrolls than the current version of the originals. For example, the name Takefusa is clearly visible in the 19th century version, but no longer so in the original. Click Compare Names below to view.
